Skin Peels for Sensitive Skin. $150

Facial peels have come a long way and now available is a peel for sensitive, reactive, barrier impaired skin and the best part is your skin doesn’t “peel” after you leave the salon. The salon treatment procedure offers a tailored treatment specifically to address your skins concerns. The peels are biomimetic. This means they work with your skins natural biology as they are formatted to mimic your skins natural cell process. So, if you have some issues with your skin that you are having trouble correcting, and you also suffer from reactions to other products, or perhaps you have super sensitive skin, then this is the treatment for you.

TCA Peels – for better results faster. Suitable for face, neck, decolletage, hands and spots.

A TCA Peel (trichloroacetic acid) is the gold standard of chemical peel used worldwide to improve the appearance and texture of the skin by removing a controlled thickness of damaged skin. TCA, as it commonly goes by, is one of the most well studied acids available for skin improvements and results are visible after just one treatment.

What it does:

  • Reduces fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Improves uneven skin tone, pigmentation issues, and sun damage.
  • Treats acne scars and superficial blemishes.
  • Enhances skin texture for smoother, more youthful-looking skin.

Beyond the immediate effects it also helps over long term too. Peels help stimulate something called fibroblast. Essentially the collagen and elastin are rejuvenated and maintained to help your skin look and feel younger for longer. Most people will continually see the results for 6 months to 2 years.

Why would I choose to have a TCA peel?

A TCA peel delivers quicker visible results compared to other treatments, making it a popular and highly effective option. Each time you have a TCA the peel encourages cell turnover, collagen production and improved elasticity. Ideal for individuals looking for a non-surgical way to address fine lines, skin discoloration, acne scars, and skin with a rough texture. Sometimes one peel gives the desired result. Most people opt to perform 1to 3 TCA chemical peels throughout the year.

The peeling:

If you have your full face done it will start peeling in about 4 days and then peel for about 4 days. If you choose to have only the dark pigmentation spots done the peeling time will be the same – but on the spots only. In regard to the neck, décolletage (chest area), hands or any spots on the arms or body, the peeling will start in 7 to 10 days. These areas can peel for up to 10 days.

The process:

After your skin is cleansed and prepped, we will take some photos, get you comfortable with a fan, and then apply the appropriate TCA to your skin, creating a controlled injury that causes the top layers to peel away over several days. The skin becomes very warm (hence the fan) and once the desired result is achieved, we then neutralize the TCA and apply cool compresses. Once you are comfortable, we then recommend you go straight home and relax. After peeling, new skin emerges, which is smoother, brighter, and less damaged.

Suitability:

TCA peels are suitable for most skin types but may not be recommended for very sensitive skin or certain medical conditions. You should NOT have a chemical peel if you have excessive exposure to the sun as you will be more prone to sun damage without sufficient sun block. You should NOT have a TCA peel if you have a history of keloidal scarring, have had any recent surgical procedures, used Accutane in the last year, if you are pregnant, if you are lactating, have seborrheic dermatitis, suffer from eczema, have had any recent chemotherapy or radiotherapy.

What areas can I have treated:

  • Full face - $230.
  • Neck - $100.
  • Décolletage - $200.
  • Hands - $180.
  • Full face - $230.

We DO NOT recommend you have more than one area done at your first visit. Once you are aware of the possible discomfort you may feel during your treatment; you can then go on to book one or more areas to be done in the same visit. IMPORTANT: If you do not want to treat the full area you can choose to treat scattered dark pigmentation spots on face, neck, chest, arms and hands. The treatment begins at $45 for one spot with a charge of approximately $15 for each spot thereafter.

Downtime:

Recovery time depends on the depth of the peel used in your treatment. Superficial peels may only peel for a few days, while medium or deep peels can cause peeling and skin discoloration lasting up to a week or longer. If we perform a medium to strong peel your skin may be pink for a couple of days. The skin then quite often goes brown in patches as it is dying off. Your peeling usually starts about 3 to 4 days after your treatment and starts to peel down the centre of the face. It then moves to the outer sides of the face on day 5, 6, or 7. The peeling on the face usually is over by day 8 or 9.

Preparing for a chemical peel:

You should NOT have a chemical peel if you have excessive exposure to the sun as you will be more prone to sun damage without sufficient sun block. If you are treating considerable pigmentation, we may advise the use of a pigment lightening serum before and after your procedure. Make sure you have a supply of SPF 30+ for use post peel. For 10 days prior to your TCA avoid waxing, laser hair removal, hair removal creams, strong exfoliating scrubs. For one week prior to your TCA avoid Retinoids- (retinol, retin - A, tretinoin, prescription creams from your GP, topical Vitamin A, Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Beta Hydroxy Acids, skin bleaching creams. For 2 days prior to your TCA avoid gyms, excess exercise, saunas, spas or anything that causes your skin to become hot. If you shave your face, please stop doing this 2 days before your TCA.

Aftercare:

There is very little discomfort after your treatment. You may feel a little warm and look a little pink. You will wash your face twice daily and apply the moisturiser we provide for you (in your free after care pack) any time you feel the need. Proper aftercare is crucial, including keeping the skin well moisturised and hydrated. You MUST avoid all sun exposure and use sunscreen (SPF 30+ at least) to protect the new skin. A very large hat is ideal during the healing process. In most cases you can resume some of your normal home care regime after 10 days.

What must I avoid post peel:

For 3 days avoid gyms, exercise, sweating, and chlorine pools. For 3 to 4 weeks avoid - depending on how your skin is recovered you MUST avoid: Retinol, Vitamin A, Tretinoin, Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Beta Hydroxy Acids, waxing, hair removal creams, toners, alcohol-based products, harsh exfoliants, fragranced products, essential oils, facial wipes, picking, peeling, sun exposure, hot water on your treated area, saunas, steam rooms, Benzol Peroxide, Hydroquinone or other skin lightening products.
