Fibroblast Skin Tightening is a FANTASTIC NEW cosmetic treatment that visibly reduces excess skin. The treatment is low risk, has minimal downtime and is more affordable than surgery. Fibroblast skin tightening is known for its success with non-surgical eye lift treatment, wrinkle reduction and more. “Soft surgery” is used to describe the treatment because it delivers results similar to surgery, with no scalpel, stitches or bandages and minimal downtime.
How does Fibroblast Skin Tightening work?
Fibroblast skin tightening is a relatively new innovation to the beauty industry in Australia but has been used for a number of years in Europe. The extremely accurate device works by utilizing the voltage in the air between its tip and the skin to form an electrical arc. Once created this instantly shrinks the targeted skin. The tissue retraction and skin tightening gives results that are comparable to invasive surgery.
What areas do we treat?
Fibroblast Skin Tightening is able to treat a number of imperfections without any actual cutting of the skin. It can be used for:
- Eyelid tightening including lower eyelids and excess upper eyelid skin.
- Lines and wrinkles around the mouth.
- Neck tightening.
- Nasolabial lines.
How long does it last?
Fibroblast Skin Tightening is more than a simple tightening treatment, skin actually shrinks. Like all surgical and cosmetic procedures, the effects of plasma treatment are not entirely permanent and do not stop further ageing. But, the positive results should last you years depending on the area treated and how well you look after your skin. The positive effects of the treatment will be noticeable immediately after the first treatment, but the best results will be seen after 4 weeks. For some, an additional treatment may be required after 8 weeks and for others possibly up to 4 treatments will be needed. Additionally, there are lifestyle factors that can prevent the results from lasting as long as they can, such as smoking, alcohol consumption, and prolonged sun exposure. Those planning on a treatment should be aware their race and genetics can also have an effect on the length of beneficial effects.
How many Treatments are required?
The number of treatments required will vary according to the condition being treated, skins laxity, the desired degree of correction and the individuals response to the treatment. Most clients see results instantly and this continues to improve over the following 8 weeks. A maximum of 4 treatments in total can be carried out to get better results, although it is uncommon to require more than two treatments.
What to Expect - Side Effects and Risks?
Fibroblast skin tightening has been shown to be a safe treatment due to its non-invasive nature. Still, the majority of clients are likely to experience some minor side effects in the 7-10 days following treatment.
There will be some tiny brown marks that have the appearance of minor scabbing, which are carbon crusts, but in 7 – 10 days these will flake away, revealing new pink skin beneath. Some swelling will be seen (especially in the cases of eyelid treatment), but it is likely to only last 3-5 days at most. To avoid any more serious side effects such as hyper pigmentation, follow the aftercare recommendations given to you by your technician.
Clients we cannot treat
As with the majority of cosmetic procedures, Fibroblast Skin Tightening should not be done on -
- Women who are pregnant or breast feeding.
- Clients with a darker skin complexion.
- Clients who are prone to keloid scars.
- Clients with diabetes, healing disorders or lymphatic drainage issues.
- Clients who have a history of Hyperpigmentation.
- Clients who have pace makers.
Day of Treatment
On the day of your treatment it is recommended that no make-up be worn on the area to be treated. We suggest taking an anti-histamine 60 minutes prior to your appointment to help with swelling and continue to take anti-histamines for 2 to 3 days following your procedure. A numbing agent is applied to the area and left for 15 minutes to take effect. When the treatment area is sufficiently numb, the session begins with multiple connections to the skin with the plasma tip, spaced closely together. You may feel some heat in the treatment area, which may be uncomfortable and slightly irritating. Treatment time is usually between 10 and 40 minutes. Immediately after the treatment the area will be red and mildly swollen with small crustations and discoloration. You may experience something similar to a sun burn which will likely last a few hours. Swelling may intensify over the following few hours and more so when eyes are treated and may last 2-3 days. The crustations/discolouration should resolve within 5-12 days depending on the individual and area treated.
Following the Treatment
You will be given after care instructions to ensure that you see the best results. This includes a make-up designed for burnt skin therefore it is very healing whilst helping conceal the treated area. No bleeding is to be expected. The majority of people are safe to drive following their treatment as swelling does not set in until later that day. After the independent peeling of the crustations/scabs on the (5th to 8th day), a new, pink skin comes to the fore. This skin must be protected from direct sunlight with a high protection sunscreen of factor 50+ for at least 3 months. Sports, swimming and sauna are only permitted once all the crusts have fallen off and the wound is completely closed. The after-treatment is the most important component of the treatment and must be followed. Note that after the crusts are lost, a slight redness may remain in the following weeks to months. It usually takes 2-4 months (rarely longer) until the skin has reached its normal colour again.
- Clients should be in good health at the time of the treatment, with no pre-existing health conditions. If the client displays signs of cold or flu the treatment should be rescheduled.
- Client’s skin should not be inflamed in the area to be treated.
- Clients with a sun burn or sun tan should postpone their treatment.
- Clients must not display Herpes Simplex Virus (Cold-sores/ fever / blisters). You will need to reschedule if you are experiencing an outbreak. If you have experienced Cold- sores before – you must see your Doctor or chemist for prescription medication to use as a preventative.
- Clients with Eyelash extensions who wish to have upper eyelid tightening must have lashes removed prior to treatment and do not re-apply for 8 weeks.
- Smokers may experience a slower wound healing response.
Overall, the Fibroblast Skin Tightening is a particularly low-complication and tissue-strengthening treatment. After initial redness and scabbing, pink skin emerges. Rashes of the skin are also rare. Important behaviour is a consistent sun protection: during at least 3 months no sunbathing. During this time, use a sunscreen with a high light protection factor 50+. Very rarely there are reports of; hypersensitivity or allergic reactions to the anaesthetic cream, wound healing problems, skin infections, scarring, slight swelling, redness, tingling, the occurrence of herpes simplex and skin depigmentation (whitening). If one of these undesirable side effects occurs, it can usually be corrected during post-treatment. Please inform us of anything you wish to discuss during the post-treatment period.
